A Third of The Shield, Roman Reigns

I have recently discussed the potential of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. I would now like to take the time to do the same in regards to the third member of "The Shield" Roman Reigns.

Joe Anoa'i stands at 6 ft 4 with a very impressive physique, he is only 27 years old and comes from a lineage of Samoan wrestlers, most notably he is the cousin of future WWE Hall of Famer Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Joe Anoa'i is a retired Canadian Football Defensive Tackle. His career statistics include 9 tackles from 2007-2008 where he played for such teams as Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars and Edmonton Eskimos.

In 2010 Joe Anoa'i signed a developmental contract with WWE under the ring name Roman Leakee. Leakee made his debut for Florida Championship Wrestling on September 9 losing to Richie Steamboat. During his time at FCW Leakee won the Tag Team Championships with Mike Dalton. He also had a Heavyweight Championship match losing to Leo Kruger.

He made his WWE debut at Survivor Series on November 18 2012 as a part of the The Shield under the ring name Roman Reigns, on this night The Shield decimated Ryback with a triple power bomb though the announcers table. The Shield have gone on to have a remarkable impact with 3 consecutive PPV victories over some of the biggest names in WWE today. We haven't seen a team work so well together this good in a long time.

Whilst in my recent blogs I have talked about Ambrose being the one that stands out and Rollins been the most capable wrestler, it has been evident from the beginning that Reigns is the heavy of the group. He has taken out many big name wrestlers using a devastating looking spear. I can't help but think there is something about Reigns, when The Shield deliver a message, Roman Reigns gets physicked up and I can't help but find it to be awe inspiring. There certainly is something unique about Roman Reigns.

The Shield are one of the greatest teams WWE has ever seen and while Reigns doesn't have the experience of Ambrose or Rollins, he certainly deserves as much credit as these.

Thoughts?

  1. Another good article here Damian, you've broke down The Shield rather well, and you did once again when it came to this article. You've shown many fans that Reigns doesn't have the experience the other two guys have but at 27 he is already hitting the PPV's and tearing people in half with his brutal spear. I too agree there is something captivating about Reigns. Good job kurt.
