Wrestlemania Review

Another day, another dollar. Wrestlemania season is over and I would like to take this time to discuss what I liked and what I didn't like from the grand spectacle this year.

The opening match between The Shield, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show although short impressed me and it was certainly a great choice to open Wrestlemania with in my opinion. As a fan of Dean Ambrose I'm glad he was afforded the pin but I'm confused as to why Big Show turned heel so soon? The Shield has a bright future in WWE as a unit and as solo wresters, they're an amazing team and they're undefeated.

The second match of the night was between two titans in Mark Henry and Ryback. This match fell very short and it had a rather weak ending, I incorrectly anticipated Ryback's first PPV victory however his post match Shell Shock on Henry was very impressive.

Dolph Ziggler is a future World Champion but that would have to wait as at Wrestlemania he was set to team up with a debuting Big E Langston to take on the Tag Team Champions Team Hell No. I thought this match was okay, nothing great really happened and I wasn't particularly thrilled that Ziggler got pinned for obvious reasons. I wasn't that impressed with Langston's debut either.

Speaking of debuts that we're lackluster, the following match would feature a future Hall of Famer putting over the debuting Fandango. I felt like this match was such a waste of Chris Jericho and I wasn't that impressed with this match either. Chris Jericho deserves better.

The World Heavyweight Championship surprisngly had a good build this year but for some reason I wasn't interested in the match one single bit. Maybe it's because Jack Swagger has been a jobber for so long and then as fast as he returned he received a World Title push? I can think of a lot more deserving talents than Swagger, Jack Swagger has zero charisma. I was disappointed that Ziggler didn't cash in,I'm beginning to question if he will.

The following match would be the match I was most looking forward to. CM Punk vs The Undertaker. The build up to this match has been very entertaining and it has granted Punk a hell of a lot of heat, time and time again CM Punk has disrespected the memory of the legendary Paul Bearer to get in the Undertaker's head and gain a psychological advantage, did it work? The Undertaker certainly was raring to go from the minute the bell sounded. Although The Undertaker at 48 years old did look vastly out of shape I still found this to be the match of the night none the less, I wonder what they could of done if The Undertaker was healthy? CM Punk has accomplished a lot in the past few years including his historic WWE Championship reign but adding the astonishing Wrestlemania streak to that list was simply not meant to be. There where some fantastic moments in this match if you forget about the announcer's table not collapsing. I loved CM Punk doing one of Undertaker's signature moves Old School and I also loved the rapid Tombstone Piledriver out of nowhere, I also loved Punk's heel tactics, there is no better heel in WWE today than Punk. While Punk did not win he certainly did impress and I thought this was the match of the night.

Although the No Holds Bared wasn't a match I was excited for, I did enjoy it and I didn't even care that HHH's career was on the line because he wrestles once a year anyway. I didn't really understand why Shawn Michaels was at ringside but the Sweet Chin Music to Paul Heyman at the finish was a nice touch. Paul Heyman certainly was a busy bee at Wrestlemania, his reactions to certain moments on the night where priceless, Paul Heyman is an amazing on screen personality. There where some great moments in this match I absolutely loved including Lesnar suplexing HHH through the table. I also liked HHH trying to end the match with the Kimura Lock. HHH popping up and locking the Kimura Lock back on was like something out of a horror movie. This match was good from start to finish it was brutal, it had a nice finished and I enjoyed it. It exceeded my expectations.

This years Wresttlemania had it's ups and downs and now we are arrive at the main event, which is for the WWE Championship. The Rock vs John Cena. John Cena unsurprisingly got booed out of the building as per usual, John Cena had been teasing a heel turn for weeks and that's what got me invested in this match. Although the match had a lot of finishers, I actually liked it, I thought The Rock's counters we're brilliant. The crowd was hot for this match and I'm not surprised the least, they are the two biggest stars in wrestling today, it seems the once in a lifetime nonesense wasn't going to stop the fans in New Jersey from enjoying it. The one thing I love most about wrestling is the element of surprise and watching this match I had no idea who and when was going to pick up the victory and that is what pro wrestling should be about at the end of the day. It was John Cena however who would pin The Rock to once again become the WWE Champion and the crowd let the WWE know that they was not impressed with this decision. Although I did enjoy the match, I was very disappointed that Cena's heel tease was just that and even more so they hugged as I guess in WWE's mind The Rock passed the torch to John Cena. John Cena is the face of the company but he gets the best heel reaction, I don't know why WWE doesn't take a risk on Cena and do the unthinkable.

So there's my review of this years Wrestlemania, it had it's hits, it had it's misses but I was impressed with it. Three solid main events. Questions? comments? thoughts? leave them below.
