Well, another Wrestlemania is in the history books, one which I'm sure when the dust settles will divide opinions, it certainly did with us three.
The mid card matches of the night were made up of hits and misses, I think the reason for the misses is the woeful buildup surrounding this years 'Mania.
Not to worry, some matches actually delivered on the big stage, one group of people in particular had a stellar Wrestlemania outing, I of course refer to the Shield. Now, normally I'm not a fan of 6 man tag matches at 'Mania, but as it was the shield, I was willing to make an exception, you couldn't shake the feeling that their opposing team were just cobbled together for the sole reason that creative had nothing else for them. It was a good match however, if not a little too short.
Of all the other lower card matches, I have to say I was disappointed, Henry vs Ryback goes a long way to back up my theory that two big guys working a match doesn't look right, and comes off sloppy, as their movement is both restricted, the while point of big dudes is to have smaller ones make them seem stronger and more agile, having two big guys together is like racing elephants, it's just too slow.
As for Jericho vs Fandango, I don't know what all the fuss surrounding Fandango was, fair's fair he lasted the pace with Jericho, but Jericho is the much elder I the two, yet he was the one pulling off the impressive, athletic moves, as for a roll up finish, it didn't go anywhere as to make Fandango look strong at all, it was just a waste of a match, where Jericho could have had so much better with someone else.
To be honest, the event was saved by the 3 big matches, mostly Punk and Taker in my eyes. We now know Punk's ring work very well, we've become a costumed to him putting on solid matches with just about anyone, put him against Taker, a man who seemingly can have a good match against a broom, and you're in for a cracker, it certainly didn't disappoint that's for sure, with ups and downs lasting the whole match, you genuinely got the feeling that the streak was in danger, ultimately however, the Undertaker prevailed, which in all honesty, is probably the right result, no matter how much of a fan of CM Punk I am, the match has shown me that the streak shouldn't be touched.
HHH and Lesnar, a match I was really looking forward to, also really delivered, a well as a thrilling match, it gave us great storytelling as well, something you don't really see in many matches anymore, the use of the Kimura lock by both competitors was a good edge to the story, seeing how Lesnar had used it so effectively in the past, it only seemed right that HHH should give it a go. Again this match had the right result, and both men looked very strong in pulling off a great match, even in loss, Lesnar looked as dominant as ever.
Now, the main event, Rock vs Cena II. A match that prior to 'Mania starting, I wasn't really that interested in, it suffered from a lack of build up, as many of the matches did, but in the end, it proved an impressive bout. Despite it's impressive content, you got the feeling the match was a bit 'samey' as in it felt like more or less a carbon copy of last years, where Lesnar and HHH changed things up from their last bout, it felt as thought Cena and Rock were reading through last years script all over again, except this year, it was pulled off much more effectively, as I wasn't particularly impressed by last years match. The ending was significant as a 'passing of the torch' moment and after the match The Rock seemed like a man who had finished up for the last time, although it's highly likely that we'll see a third meeting at Extreme Rules.
Overall then, it was a rollercoaster event, with good and bad matches, and even though I'm not one to do number ratings, if I were, I'd say it was a strong 7, perhaps even an 8.
