What's next for Cena?
John Cena is a man who's seemingly done it all; 11 Time WWE Champ, Wrestlemania headliner, as well as winning pretty much everything there is to win and being an almost guaranteed Hall of Famer. So the question is, now he's beaten The Rock for the title, where next for the WWE's top dog?
- Who’s next in line for the championship?
Well, this is the million dollar question really, on one hand The Rock still has his 'rematch clause' he was injured at 'Mania (still not convinced that's legit) so that leaves it open for him to delay his rematch, maybe even, God forbid Rock vs Cena III next 'mania, something that none of us want to see. Then there's Ryback, who seems to have started an angle with Cena this past RAW, whether this was a heel turn or just the start of a fued remains to be seen. I still think Ryback's not ready, but he's a heavy possibility. Then there's Mark Henry, however, his match with Cena this past Monday could simply be an offshoot of the Ryback-Henry fued, we shall soon see, I'm sure.
- Five wrestlers he could feud with for the title?
5. CM Punk - Very unlikely as it would quickly become stale, but we must remember that Punk held the title for 434 days in his last reign, so you can never rule out the Straight Edge Saviour from going after what he sees as his title.
4. Brock Lesnar - Seeing as Rock was champion, I can't see why they wouldn't put the title on Lesnar, let's face it, he'd make it look much more legitimate, as you actually believe that given half a chance Lesnar would rip your throat out if you looked at him in the wrong way. And I can pretty much say for certain that he'll hold it before next years 'Mania.
3. The Rock - Almost a given really, that when The Rock gets back, he'll have his sights set back on the title, I could see it perhaps at Summerslam so that they're not stretching the whole 'rematch clause' thing too far, if it turns out that Rock's injury is real, which it likely is, but there's no way to believe WWE on these things, then it could perhaps be Survivor Series or Royal Rumble, put please WWE, not Wrestlemania.
2. Ryback - Another obvious choice, i don't think he'll get the title just yet, as he needs more experience and time under his belt, it's certain now that this will be the fued going into Extreme Rules? But will it last? To me this will be a 2 PPV fued, running upto a match against Rock at Summerslam maybe as well as another PPV in July to take on someone new.
1. Dean Ambrose - Think about it, he's fresh, he's unique, he's... perfect, both for the title and for Cena, because him challenging for the title instantly makes him a main event player, as well as giving Cena his biggest test in years, having to go against a much younger, unpredictable and highly talented opponent, the likes of which, in Ambroses' capacity, he's never faced.
- Who will he actually lose the belt too?
To me, the title has to go to someone who's never held it, as much as it pains me, giving it back to Punk would probably be a step in the wrong direction, as would losing to The Rock, which is why he should drop it to Ambrose, his character can easily pull off a title run and a rivalry against Cena, who he would undoubtably bring the best out of, it would also be a chance for Cena to step to one side, and let the next generation take their time.
- Is there anyone strong enough for the belt?
I also believe firmly that Lesnar would make a good champion, perhaps after Cena's dropped it to Ambrose, a match against Lesnar would do nothing but good for Ambroses' rep, whether he loses or not he'd retain his main event status, is there anyone else who could look more dominant than Lesnar with title? Even if he is part time, you get the feeling that every time you see Lesnar you're in for something special and Ambrose vs Lesnar would be exactly that.

This is a good blog nath, you've backed your reason with each wrestler in your top five, however I personally wouldn't put Ambrose at number one spot. Although it'd be great if he was, I don't think he is ready yet or done enough to justify that as it is only six man tag matches which he's participated in. No doubt about it he will hold the WWE title some point in his career, there's just stars in front of him, the four you stated even with cesaro, miz, bryan, ziggler & barrett in front of Ambrose, also as much as it pains me to say; kane, sheamus, show, orton and del rio would also be in front of ambrose, my ideal choice would be ambrose don't get me wrong and your reason's why are spot on, i'd have gone with someone else at number 1 with you then following up with your personal choice of dean. Overall a very good article, with justification to everything you've stated. well done. good work. Kurt.
ReplyDeleteA solid article, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. You listed some good candidates. My only issue with it is Dean Ambrose, I love him as much as the next guy but there's some WWE talent's that deserve the opportunity before him. Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett been two people that spring to mind.
