Welcome to this week's review on the latest TNA Impact show which was live from Chorpus Christi, Texas.
So the match to open the show was the tag team 2 out of 3 falls match for the TNA Tag Team Championship between champions 'A Double' Austin Aries & 'The IT Factor' Bobby Roode and Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez, if the latter are unsucessful then they would never be able to wrestle together in TNA again. Things started off very heated has the champs attacked the challengers ring side, leaving Hernandez out on the floor after repeatedly being thrown into the steel steps. Things started off as a two on one situation, with Roode & Aries dominating Chavo Guerrero as Hernandez is still laid out. It only took the champions to the 0:27 mark to get the first fall of the match, as Bobby Roode hit Chavo with the spinebuster for the three count. It was then Aries turn as he went up high to mock Chavo with the frog splash which he took too long to execute and missed Chavo who followed up with a roll up and a 3 count on 1:27. So less than two minutes into the match and both team's having 1 fall, with Hernandez still laid out ring side. Hernandez finally got involved in the match and as soon as he did he gained control for his team with a series of big impaact moves from a fired up Hernandez. The control of the match kept going back and forth between both teams but it was in the 11:02 mark when the 2 fall came about. This was when Hernandez hit both Aries & Roode with a double superplex which then had Chavo Guerrero get the 3 count due to hitting the frog splash. New TNA Tag Team Champions are crowned as Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez become TNA Tag Team Champions for the second time in Chavo's home state of Texas.
Park cutting in ring promo about his issue with aces and more so bully, and that Jeff will win the title and that he has a document of annulment, so that brooke will no long have to be married to bully. Devon intterupts and comes in to the ring wearing his Television Championship and rips up the annulment papers. Devon stating if Park has a problem with Bully and Aces means he has a problem with him and gave Park a warning to stay out of their business. He then comes back in to the ring and hits Park with the chain around his fist.
Gail Kim vs Taryn Terrell with ODB as referee, this match went back and forth, with the female wrestlers actually doing moves. Terrell brought it to Kim without holding back, however Kim soon started dominating, showing she's a heel of the knockout's division by pushing her luck which ODB was having none of. The match ended on the 2:00 minute mark as Kim rolled up Terrell however ODB stopped the count and told Kim to let go of the tights, this then led to Terrell knocking Kim into the turnbuckle and following up with a roll up of her own for the 3 count. Terrell got some revenge on Kim who got her fired from being the Knockout Division referee by beat the longest reigning Knockout's champion in TNA history.
It showed a back stage segment regarding Gut Check with the three judges talking about what they like about each participant and who should get the contract out of Adam Pearce and Magno. This then leads to them being backstage with the two participants back stage. This is where they eliminate one participant which then the remaining participant will get their Gut Check fate in the ring. Pritchard eliminates Adam Pearce from GutCheck despite his win last week and tell's Magno his fate will be decided in the ring. Pearce looking fustrated tell's Pritchard he's a damn fool.
There was then footage regarding AJ Styles and whether he was going to choose Aces & Eights or TNA and Hulk Hogan says he's going to handle that in the ring right now. It then shows MR.Anderson reaching out to AJ once more, giving him the jacket and telling him to think about it.
Hogan gets a big pop from the Corpus Christi crowd as he comes down to the ring, call's out AJ Styles and demands that he lets him know whats going on right now and once more AJ walks out holding the jacket in his hand. Hogan gives AJ an ultimatum which then leads to AJ snatching the microphone saying he doesn't respond well to ultimatums 'brother', this getting some heat from a crowd which seemed full of Hulkamaniacs. Then once more before AJ can speak properly, James Storm comes out with a mic, he comes out stating he's not giving ultimatums, to hear what sides he on and gets in AJ's face to tell them that they're going to fight.
Before things esculated this had one more interruption as Bad Influence come down to the ramp. Once more it Bad Influence are a joy to watch, cutting a top promo, regarding AJ's situation. Daniels said it's a lose, lose for Styles as both Hogan's team and Aces & Eights will just end up spitting him out once he's done what they want. Daniels then says AJ should join bad influence and go on their side. He gave a good point with his argument talking about the accomplishment the three of them have accomplishedments saying it would be good if it was them against the world.
Storm then again got in the face of AJ, telling him to choose Hogan, AJ once again turns his back and walks up the rant without making a decision which leads to Hogan saying next week its now James Storm vs AJ Styles.
There was then a backstage segment with Kurt Angle stating Jeff Hardy will win the title back tonight and then said for next week he's asked to face the two guys who betrayed him in a two on one handicap, and that he'll show the world why he's baddest S.O.B in professional wrestling. Next week, Kurt Angle vs Garrett Bischoff & Wes Briscoe.
Joey Ryan heads down to the ring for his match which Brooke Hogan set up then out comes his opponent, Rob Terry. Terry having a new entrance video and music which show's he's now a serious competitor rather than the silly gimmick he had with Robbie E.
Joey Ryan run's at Terry which he than bounces off him without Terry even flinching, then it was just like a training session for Terry throwing Ryan round like a crash dummy. Terry just doing move after Move with Ryan just crawling round the ring not being capable of countering anything or applying his offence. Terry in complete control gettin the pin on 2:30. An easy squash match for Rob Terry just domination Joey Ryan for the full match.
Backstage with Brooke & Hulk Hogan, talking about where Brooke will be during the match, Bully vs Hardy. As Brooke leaves, Matt Morgan pops up to Hogan, again slating the amount of bad decisions Hogan keeps doing referring them as 'Hogan's mistakes' saying he should have been number 1 contender at Lockdown and Bully wouldn't be champ and Hogan wouldn't have been responsible for breaking his daughters heart.
It was no over to the ring, where Magno would learn his Gut Check fate from three free judges. These being; Danny Davis, head trainer in OVW wrestling, Bruce Prichard, senior vice president of talent relations and AL Snow, the senior director of talent relations. Danny Davis said no to Magno, Bruce Pritchard then said no. Which means neither Magno or Adam Pearce got a contract with TNA Wrestling.
Backstage segment with Bully Ray and The Aces & Eights, Bully making the Aces to give him their words that they won't get involved in his match tonight and that he needs to beat Jeff Hardy alone tonight.
Now it's time for the main event, Full Metal Mayhem for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Champion and President of The Aces & Eights Bully Ray vs 'The Charismatic Enigma' Jeff Hardy.
Jeff Hardy didn't waste much time with the first move in the match being a twist of fate followed by a series of offence from Jeff Hardy as he catched out Bully Ray who was taunting his wife at ring side and soon hit Ray with a few chair shots then sets up a ladder in the corner of the ring whih bully then goes face first into. This is vintage Hardy, taking it to Bully full speed ahead, running and jumping of the chair to hit bully against the ladder. Jeff Hardy hasn't wasted anytime to hurt Bully with the ladder and chair. 2 minutes in and Jeff Hardy goes to grab the belt however is stopped by Bully who has not got himselt incontrol of the match. Hardy is soon weakened due to shots by Bully Ray with his chain. They are then both on top of the ladder trading blows which then Bully Ray superplex's Jeff Hardy from the top of the ladder. Neither wrestler in control of the match, but Bully Ray sets up a ladder upside down and front superplex's Hardy between the steps of the ladder which then leads to hardy being sandwiched from the ladder. Hardy selling an injured leg even more so following this move from Bully. This is now total destruction from Bully Ray. Jeff Hardy then fights back with a series of offence which is getting some pop's from the crowd who are well engaged in this match but Bully soon regains control. Both men having their own spells of control with the match going back and forth. Hardy then sets up Bully on table on the floor climbs top rope and Swantoms Bully straight through the table. The fan's then chanting "Holt Shit, Holy Shit, Holy Shit" Brilliant stuff from both men as they're laid in a heap on the floor burried in a table. Hardy then climbing the ladder, Bully Ray gets to his feet and gets a hammer from Tazz at the announcers table and follows Hardy up the ladder. Both men trading blows at the top of the ladder, before Hardy reches for the belt with both hands and Ray pulls out the hammer and hit's Hardy right in the forehead which then Hardy falls back straight through a table and there it is the winner on 13:41 and defends his World Heavyweight Championship, Bully Ray!
This is a big statement by Bully Ray and the power and strength that The Aces & Eights have and then all members of The Aces & Eights hit the ring to celebrate with their president. Ray then gets the mic and cuts a short promo about who he and The Aces & Eights are.
A very good show in Corpus Christi, with some very good high points. The match of the night by far has to be the main event. Both Bully & Jeff Hardy putting everything on the line with a very good impressive brutal match which was PPV worthy in my opinion. Another highlight of the night would have to be the promo regarding Aces & Eights, with him still yet to decide where his loyalties are, and now Bad Influence laying another card on the table for Styles, whether that is more mind games from the pair or not remains to be seen. But again, AJ not giving anything away and Bad Influence bringing their 'A' game when it comes to their promo's good consistant solid work from Kaz & Daniels. Not too sure what to think about the Tag Team Championship changing hands, as I thought Bobby Roode and Austin Aries had something good here and have been performing well on a consistant basis. Hopefully they'll beat Chavo & Hernandez to regain the tag team gold. Once more, looking forward to the following show, aftermath of TNA failing to get the TNA World Heavyweight Championship after Bully Ray's defence, see what follows up regarding the two teams involved in the Tag Team Championship and once more AJ Styles will be in the spotlight.

A solid review, it sounded like a good show. I need to check TNA out sometime. Not a whole lot of wasted moments either, a lot of storyline developments and the new AJ angle sounds promising.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Kurt.
